It was late afternoon in early July as we headed towards Los Angeles. These are the foothills of Santa Barbara, California, on the Pacific (my ocean) side of the Rocky Mountains. The hillsides were golden.
We were behind schedule.
My one big tip for train travel: EXPECT DELAYS.
